Futurelab 10 Mar 2008 The Futurelab Ideas Incubator is open from 21 January to 29 February 2008 and they are seeking new ideas to support learning outside school. Every day, young people are involved in developing skills, competencies and knowledge outside school - whether learning from parents or siblings, from friends or online communities, whether through formal activities such as clubs or community groups, or through informal activities, such as hobbies and personal passions. One child might learn through being an online games master; another child by helping out in a shop. One child might learn how to care for and support a relative, another might harbour a personal passion for music or dancing. The challenges they are setting in this Ideas Incubator are: -How could they support young people to recognise what they are achieving in informal settings? -What tools and practices could they develop to support young people to reflect upon and develop their out-of-school learning? -How can they support educators to recognise, build upon and support children's informal learning interests? -What tools and practices could enable young people to showcase their informal learning to their families, friends, employers or educators? Futurelab is are seeking exciting ideas about new ways of learning with technology. Their aim is to develop your idea further so that it can be showcased, perhaps modelled in a way that lets people try it out, or that possibly helps prepare it for a larger stage of development. Ideas are welcome from absolutely anyone in the UK and they have lots to offer, including a team of experts and funding to help develop your idea.
